In the convergence between operations and information technologies, important changes are determined in the business models of vertically integrated Utility companies, which range from the formulation of new technical management processes and the redefining of organizational structures, to new directions for the strategic development of applications and services. From a wider perspective, the IT-OT convergence has enabled the trend which is changing the future of electricity services: Smart Grids.
This article presents the concepts and driving forces which are most relevant to the ITOT convergence, from which a framework is formulated that identifies models, disciplines and processes that should be considered during an orderly development process.
