Currently, Ecuador is experiencing changes in the energy matrix, which involves big projects in electricity area mainly in generation, transmission, subtransmission and distribution, particularly the entry into operation of the Coca Codo Sinclair generation plant and the creation of new supply points to the distribution companies.

In this context, the Corporación Eléctrica del Ecuador CELEC EP has built the substation named Jivino of TRANSELECTRIC, which constitutes for the electricity distribution company CNEL EP Sucumbíos, a new point of connection to the National Interconnected System (SNI).

This work carries out a study of protective device coordination in the CNEL EP Sucumbíos subtransmission system, due to the operation of the mentioned new connection point to the SNI, in order to determine the appropriate protection system and settings for the distribution company CNEL EP Sucumbíos. An analysis of the behavior of the two teleprotection schemes, which are PUTT (Permissive Under-reach Transfer Trip) and POTT (Permissive Over-reach Transfer Trip), for the protection of distance and its operation to direct faults and high impedance faults. Finally, the coordination of protections is verified by establishing different types of short-circuits.
