The purpose of this paper is to validate the Systemic Protection System’s (SPS) correct operation implemented in the Ecuadorian system and its impact on Ecuador’s Interconnected National System’s operation (SNI). In order to help us identify possible deviations from predefi ned algorithms, statistics of key variables’ behavior from SPS will be analyzed.

The SPS’ proper operation will be examined when a simple contingency in SNI arises, such as a power outage triggered in transmission line Milagro - Pascuales 230 kV. Regarding the mentioned contingency, an SNI’s postmortem analysis will be made in order to evaluate the system’s possible dynamic behavior with a NOT activated SPS.

Real-time operation’s statistical analysis and post-mortem will allow concluding whether the SPS’ operation is correct and it has improved the SNI security, or not.
