The present work focuses on a practical application of remote control for the opening and closing of the reactive compensation tuned to the fifth harmonic at the output of the 13.8 kV distribution feeder of the Novacero S.A. electrical substation, through the migration from local control to remote control by means of a Schneider Electric U27 series recloser as a switch for its location in the yard. The process includes the use of the recloser in one-shot mode which is performed by the operator from the control room, in addition a SEL-551 protection relay is implemented which commands the recloser to open in the event of possible overcurrent faults by means of an ADVC-IOEX card located on the recloser board. This device helps to open and close the filter remotely in conjunction with the WSOS software of the equipment for the supervision and operation from a level 2 substation automation system. The result obtained through this automation system is to safeguard the safety of the operator from level 0 to level 1 automation, in addition to being able to monitor and supervise the variables measured inside the control room from level 2.
