Tuning of the Power System Stabilizers of the Ecuadorian National Interconnected System - Application and Comparison of Heuristic Methods in Multi-Machine Environment
Main Article Content
Abstract
The Ecuadorian National Interconnected System has experienced in recent years a vertiginous development, incorporating new generation plants, so that maintain a stable operation through adequate analysis and control techniques becomes a necessity for the institutions in charge of the system operation. The implementation of power system stabilizers (PSS) has proved to be an effective method to contribute to improve stability, requiring that its parameters be correctly calibrated according to the needs and environment of the power system. In the present work, the heuristic methods of MeanVariance Mapping Optimization (MVMO) and Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) are tested in the multi-machine PSSs tuning of the National Interconnected System (SNI) of Ecuador, projected to the year 2018, aiming at increasing the damping of their oscillation modes.
The two methods are compared according to the results obtained in the improvement of the smallsignal stability of SNI.
