Main Article Content
Abstract
An analysis on the regulations regarding the concept of Distributed Generation, technology developments, the importance of energy security and diversification of the energy matrix with renewable energy, and the need to reduce dependency on fossil fuels, all demand that Ecuador develop new non-conventional projects for renewable energy sources. The DG should be part of the business model together with the coming of smart grids, and such developments call for a careful and specialized study and review of concession regulations, energy grid impacts, and risk mitigation measures. Electric hybrid vehicles, storage devices, and smart micro grids could become a reality if based on the experience and lessons learned by leading countries.
