Electrical Power System (EPS) are subjected to a variety of electrical phenomena and are structured by a huge number of both active and passive elements. For this reason, to plan, operate and monitor a power system, it is necessary to use computer programs that help simulating, as realistically as possible, the elements of a power system as well as the different electrical phenomena that take place. This paper presents a comparative analysis between two simulation power system programs: DIgSILENT PowerFactory and PSS/E. For this purpose, the IEEE 39 bus test system is used to simulate: power flows, short-circuits and transient stability. In addition, an instructive for the PSS/E program is presented to create a case study where the simulation modules mentioned above are tested. The execution time of each simulation shows that PSS / E program is faster than DIgSILENT PowerFactory software for steadystate and transient state studies.
