Power System Transient Stability Assessment based on Center of Inertia Concept
Main Article Content
Abstract
This work presents an analysis of the power system transient stability assessment using the concept of Center of Inertia COI as reference. First, a synchronous machine model for transient stability studies has been presented. This model uses the dq0 reference frame based on Park transform. Afterwards, the importance of choosing a specific angle reference for defining any Park-based model is analyzed. This aspect has several important consequences that motivate the selection of a general time-variable angle reference known as Center of Inertia COI. With the purpose of generalizing the benefits of using COI for transient stability assessment, formal mathematical demonstrations are developed. In addition, simulation results of several study cases analyzed at two test power systems are presented. By this way, it is verified that COI gives a general reference frame properly designed for assessment of power system transient stability.
