Analysis of the implementation of a Strategy for Energy Consumption Reduction in the Residential Sector of Ecuador: Impact Evaluation in the Energy Matrix
Main Article Content
Abstract
In this article an evaluation of the impact on the energy matrix of the implementation of a strategy to optimize energy consumption in the residential sector of Ecuador was made. The proposal for the optimization of residential energy consumption considers the electrification of cooking and water heating systems in homes, by means of high efficiency systems replacing LPG cylinders. Likewise, the reduction of energy consumption in homes is evaluated due to the integration of bioclimatic criteria in the construction of houses and buildings, as well as the replacement of inefficient electric refrigeration and lighting equipment with the help of the Simulation and Analysis software. the Energy Matrix, SAME. In the LPG replacement scenario, which implies the consumption of electricity for the home that requires the construction of new power plants to cover the expected increase in demand. The implementation of energy efficiency strategies, efficient generation of refrigeration and lighting, as well as the integration of solar thermal systems, would allow the construction of new hydroelectric plants, avoiding the importation of electricity from neighboring countries and the environmental impact of hydroelectric dams.
