Abstract

The aim of this paper is to establish how Energy Efficiency Law influences the framework of Ecuador’s public passenger transport system. In addition to establishing hypothetical scenarios under different energy projections in comparative terms between buses that use fossil fuels, particularly diesel, and electromobility through electric buses. The methodology has been carried out in order to establish for a given base year the number of buses in the public transport system for passengers, their consumption and performance in terms of energy. After this, the performance ratio for electric buses was used to analyze the incidence of technological change towards electromobility to know how the energy demand of electricity will be affected and how it varies in time until the year 2025. The results show that in terms of energy, the massive migration of buses towards electromobility does not cause problems in the supply and demand of electricity in continental Ecuador during the years of the analysis period.
