Abstract

The following paper presents a systematic process of energy use through an analysis of energy indicators in a healthcare building, where it affirms the importance of regular energy consumption profile requirements, being aware of this, this work studies the energy performance and establishes specific energy performance indicators of some healthcare areas. The authors analyzed a basic hospital located in the province of Cotopaxi (Ecuador), equipped with 15 beds, where a hospital energy balance was performed determining electric energy as the major energy carrier with 46, 84%, the electricity tariff was evaluated during the period of one year (2022), identifying an annual consumption of 124 030 kWh, the distributed percentage of electric energy in this hospital was identified, with the highest consumption being electric motors with 38%, and lighting with 22%, and identified energy indicators that allowed decisions to be made to help make energy savings through the analysis of power and lighting quality. Based on this analysis, a capacitor bank was implemented that helped improve the power factor from 0,87 to 0,95 and fluorescent lamps were replaced with LEDs, optimizing the level of luminosity within the permitted levels, which resulted in a reduction of 8 807, 69 kWh/year and reduced carbon dioxide emissions by 1 688,43 (kg/CO2/year).
