Abstract
Regional energy trade improves the economic efficiency for all the parties involved. Combining markets allow increasing of regional social welfare, i.e. the operating cost decreases in the region. In electricity markets, there are particular features and complexities that could lead to changes in the “individual social welfare” of participating markets, such as transmission network congestion, power reserve assignment and market power. These characteristics can alter energy price, change the surpluses of consumers and producers, and increases or decreases social welfare of partakers in a regional market. This paper defines the social welfare taking into account the own characteristics of power system. Then, the paper shows how regional energy trade affects the “individual social welfare” of partakers.
