Abstract

This research seeks to know the energy consumption in Block A of the South Campus of the Salesian Polytechnic University in Quito, Ecuador, through an energy audit, analyzing its thermal envelope, the efficiency of the equipment installed and in this way knowing its current energy rating by simulating its location in Spain, a country that has computer tools for this purpose. The results of this work will assist public and private institutions related to the area. Further, this study will promote the development of a computer tool for energy rating adapted to Ecuador and this way comply with the Energy Efficiency Law approved in 2019.

For this purpose, information was collected on climate parameters, data on the envelope, and thermal installations, etc. Then, through the HULC program, the building's energy rating was emitted, which was E. After this, energy efficiency improvements were proposed. By simulating these improvements, including solar thermal energy, the consumption of non-renewable EP and CO2 emissions was reduced by 60%, achieving a final energy rating of A.

This work can be improved if more robust information becomes available that will help optimize HULC simulation and promote research on energy audits in buildings related to non-renewable EP consumption and CO2 emissions.
