Abstract

In this document the undervoltage load shedding is discussed as an option to ensure security and stability of power systems. The minimum load shedding is formulated as optimal power flow (OPF) subject to the constraints of the system, the method used to solve the OPF is interior point primal – dual method. Load shedding scheme is developed using Matlab, the software (EACO_BV) determines the minimum load shedding, location and the cost of energy not supplied. EACO_BV is applied to IEEE 30 bus system and part of the ecuadorian national grid in which systemic protection scheme is activated by double contingency Santa Rosa – Totoras 230 kV. The results are validated by Power Factory DigSILENT.
