Abstract

Power systems have experienced many changes in the last decades, from improvements in protections to the use of new primary sources to generate electricity, with the purpose of guarantee reliability and continuity of the electric service. To enable the use of the changes in power systems, it is imperative to have plans that help to manage and optimize the resources in technical, human, fi nancial and energy areas. For this reason, the management of the energy that comes from renewable sources has become one of the most important challenges in the modern power systems, especially when these systems (renewable energy systems) are connected in the distribution level and have low nominal power.

In this context, the current work presents a model of a micro electrical grid based on photovoltaic technology installed in a home in order to provide electricity to concurrent load, e.g. an induction cooker. A management model was implemented in the micro grid in order to prioritize its working mode. The results show that the use of the management model allows to maximize the use of the produced electricity to satisfy the load requirements, or to sell the surplus to the electric power company, provided that it is exist the appropriate regulatory framework. Moreover, the proposed management model produces a release load between 55% and 65% of electricity distribution systems depending on weather conditions.
