Abstract
Synchronism of transmission lines, due to restoration to normal operation conditions after scheduled maintenance, or electrical island connection to a bulk power system is a critical switching operation either for transmission equipment and generation units. Moreover, successful automatic recloser operation is very important to maintain a safe and reliable power system. Therefore, the present research focuses on determining a proper methodology to set synchronism relays of transmission lines at National Transmission System (SNT) of Ecuador, especially for maximum standing phase angle between breaker poles, taken into account negative effects over circuit breakers and generators. In order to verify relevant variable behavior, which are previously specify for the suggested methodology, is within limits, extensive dynamic simulations are performed on transmission lines of 230 kV main ring of SNT. The final results will allow a properly standing phase angle setting for transmission line synchronism at 230 kV main ring of Ecuadorian power system.
