Abstract

This paper presents the development of a computational tool based on the SIME (Single Machine Equivalent) Method, which assess transient stability problems of a power system through stability margins. This evaluation allows guiding the defi nition of preventive control actions in order to improve power system dynamic security. Using the DIgSILENT Programming Language (DPL), a computational tool for evaluating the transient stability and obtaining stability margins based on SIME method was developed. This application evaluates the behavior of the power system in its post-fault confi guration in terms of equivalent OMIB (One Machine Infi nite Bus). The evolution of mechanical and electrical parameters (rotor angle, rotor speed, mechanical and electrical power) of OMIB is calculated from the evolution over time of the electrical quantities of the machines and from the Equal Area Criterion EAC. It allows calculating transient stability margins of the power system. The results obtained by implementation and application of the methodology in the test system IEEE New England allow verifying the benefi ts of the method for calculating transient stability margins.
